4 Casual Wardrobe Staples

I’ve been wearing a capsule wardrobe for two seasons at this point, and I find that there are a few basics that I plan to always have in my capsule. These are simple, casual pieces that can be worn in so many different ways, and their versatility makes them perfect for a capsule wardrobe. Today I’m sharing four basics for your wardrobe, and while I’m sure there are more than four basics in my closet, I think these pieces are a great place to start in a more intentional wardrobe!

They are:

The Denim Shirt, The Striped Tee, The Denim Jacket, and The Cross-body Bag.

The Cross-body Bag

They keep your valuables secure and easy to access at the same time, and I think they do a great job of looking both laid back and chic. I recently got this little vintage Coach number from Dear Golden Vintage, and I’m in love with it! A vintage bag is a great option if you want the durability of leather, but don’t want to purchase new leather. Mine dates to the 1980s, and combines a classic vintage charm with modern practicality. Be on the look out for a What’s in My Bag featuring this bag on my YouTube channel in the next couple of weeks!

The Denim Shirt

My denim shirts are some of the most worn items in my wardrobe. I love to throw them on with jeans in a different wash of denim, tuck them into a midi skirt, or wear them open over dresses. They can dress down more tailored pieces and give them that casual cool look. I love the combination of an open denim shirt, fitted dress, and movie-star-esque shades. In my summer capsule I’ve been wearing this polka dotted Madewell shirt I got from ThredUp. I love the pin dots and the longer length.

The Striped Tee

I’m pretty much obsessed with stripes, and love the classic feel that they give a look. Audrey Hepburn vibes much? Right now I’m loving the micro striped tops that are available for their mix of classic and on trend. This tee from Everlane is so comfortable and practical. I wear this one just with a pair of high-waisted jeans or with skirts. It’s a great basic to build off of.

The Denim Jacket

I think it’s the perfect casual completer piece, and I plan to include it in my autumn capsule as well. I love it over dresses (Actually what I’m wearing today!) as well as with more feminine tops. It adds a little bit of an edge while making my outfits look a little bit more put together. I found this Loft jacket on ThredUp, and love the slightly cropped cut of it as well as the little bit of distressing on the collar.

  1. One of my go to pieces is a olive green utility jacket, it’s gotten so bad I think i have about 5 different olive green jackets lol. They go with everything and have become a “neutral” color for my wardrobe! It would go lovely with your denim and stripes and basically any other color in you have for especially jewel tones and even pastels.

    1. Ohhh yes! I have an olive green jacket, and I love it so much! I found mine at Anthro and it’s got some eyelet lace detailing which makes me happy. 😀 Olive is definitely a neutral for me too! I love it with blush pink. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting Denny!
