Handbags are some of the primary investment pieces in my wardrobe. The work that goes into creating one is taxing and meticulous, often making them more expensive than other items I purchase. While I’m not the type to run out and buy a new bag each season, I am slowly collecting an assortment that serve me well and will last for years. Quality over quantity really rings true. One thing I have discovered as I have researched ethical handbag options is that fair production does not always cost as much as I would expect, and traditional manufacturing of designer bags is sometimes inflated. A high-quality ethically made bag does not need to cost a month’s rent. Today I’m rounding up some of my favorite bags from a mixture of vegan and non-vegan brands. If you are looking to add a classic bag to your wardrobe, I hope you find this post helpful.
This is a bag I’ve had in my wardrobe for the past year, and I’ve been so impressed with the quality. It is a medium sized crossbody bag made in Spain, and is available in four lovely colors. I wear mine everywhere from the grocery store to evenings out!
Round bags have been at the forefront of Instagram in recent months, and I love Baggu’s canvas take on the trend. Available in four options (including polka-dot!) this bag would be the perfect accompaniment to a casual weekend outfit. Baggu’s leather bags are made in the USA, and their canvas bags are ethically manufactured in China.
I love this cleanly structured crossbody by Nisolo. It’s sensible, classic, and would look wonderful with minimalist fall ensembles. This bag is also available in a lovely neutral color, and all of Nisolo’s products are ethically made of byproduct leather.
For all my vegan ladies, Angela Roi is where it’s at! Their animal-friendly designs are oh so chic and sophisticated. The Anne Shopper is a new addition to their collection, and I love that it is named for Anne Shirley, one of my favorite literary characters. Not only are Angela Roi’s designs animal-free, they are also sweatshop-free.
This crossbody tote from Nisolo will take you from a lunch outing to the farmer’s market with ease. I love the neutral color, and the roomy interior is perfect for days when you have a lot to carry with you. This bag is also available in black.
Made famous by Meghan Markle and Angelina Jolie, the Everlane Day Market Tote is the perfect everyday bag. Made in Florence, Italy, this bag has plenty of room for your work essentials, and comes in four colors. It’s a classic!
I had to include this dusty pink number from Angela Roi in this post when I saw the sale price! I love the 1960s style structure combined with a crossbody strap, and the blush hue is just lovely. This bag would be a lovely pop of color added to neutral outfits this season!
