Berg + Betts: An Ethical & Sustainable Watch That’s Anything But Boring

blush and rose gold classic round face watch by Berg + Betts

When I first started making the switch to ethical and sustainable fashion, I knew in the back of my mind that I was wanting to add a classic watch to my wardrobe. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find what I was looking for in the world of sustainable brands, and after an initial internet search left me with only wooden and cork options, I was a little discouraged. I knew I wanted something with a classic round face that was built to last, and had a chic and elegant feel.

And then I found Berg + Betts.

where to buy a sustainable watchBerg + Betts is a watch company based out of Canada with a commitment to ethical manufacturing and sustainable practices. One of the most unique sustainable features of these timepieces is that the straps are made from scrap and cut off leather that would otherwise be thrown away. I love that I can wear something that looks super stylish but still incorporates a recycled material. Many people don’t realize that watch faces are often made unethically, but Berg + Betts faces are made ethically in Dongguan and assembled in Canada.

The line features several color options including gold, silver, and rose-gold faces, and many colors of leather. Berg + Betts also offers two styles of faces: The Classic and The Round.  I chose The Round in Rose Gold and Blush, and I think it’s pretty perfect. It adds a sweet accent of blush to any outfit, but also feels neutral and sophisticated.

  1. How elegant. I love the pale pink leather. I’m defintely bookmarking that site.

I really appreciate when you share brands, even if I don’t like the brand or the designs or (like with Margu) I feel that I can make them myself, I can still learn things. Like with Margu, when I looked at the site, I was really interested in the discussion of the process and materials.

I’m not too good with watches. I have three thrifted watches that I still need to find somewhere to put batteries in them since we cannot take the back or cannot get it back on. And then I will have to remember the watch, not throw in the laundry, and not get irritated wearing it (I’m not one for things, bracelets, sleeves, etc on my wrists.
