This week I’ve been pulling out my spring and summer clothes. It’s always so fun to see pieces from the past with the fresh eyes of a new year, and it definitely helps to inspire fun new outfit combinations. As I’ve been assessing what I have currently, I’ve also been taking note of what I would like to add to my closet for the spring season. These items range from updates of old favorites to more trend led items, and I have to confess; as much as I love a streamlined wardrobe, shopping for a new season is pretty darn fun.
Make some room in your closet; here are the pieces I have my eye on.
The midi skirt is a wardrobe staple for me as I’m sure you’ve noticed if you’ve read my blog for any amount of time. I love the swingy hemline and flattering cut, plus they are comfortable and breezy. This spring I’m planning to replace a couple of old Forever21 midi skirts with pieces of better quality. I love this spotted number by People Tree (available at Asos which is easier for us US folks!,) and I’ll also be checking my local thrift shops.
The trend towards statement sleeves is one that I’m just loving. They are so romantic, but still feel laid-back and cool. Jenny from Margo & Me is my statement sleeve inspiration, and this spring, I really want to try them out. I ran across this gorgeous embroidered piece on the Anthropologie website, and I’m a little obsessed with it. It’s made in the USA, and the details are stunning.
Over time I’ve been endeavoring to replace my cheap shoes with quality options that will last without having to be replaced each year. For spring footwear, simple slides or mules are catching my eye. These little leather slides by Nisolo are beautiful in their simplicity, and I can imagine them going with a variety of looks. I also have my eyes on the Everlane shoes that are set to release in the next couple of weeks!
Cropped flared pants are not something I ever thought I’d gravitate towards, but the more I see of them, the more I like them. They are cool and breezy looking while still feeling chic and pulled together which I love. For the spring season I’ll be purchasing Everlane’s version in the cream color, and I’m so excited to experiment with styling a totally new trouser style in my closet. These particular pants feature a high waist, classic pockets and seaming, and a stretchy material.
By the end of spring here in the south, it gets pretty hot. To beat the heat, I want to find a striped sleeveless top similar to this one from Alternative Apparel. Striped tops fit seamlessly into my closet, but I have yet to find a sleeveless option that I like. For this wardrobe addition, I plan to turn to my sewing machine and make it myself! I’ll be sure to document the process in case you guys are interested in how I design and sew a piece of clothing.
