vintage-clothing-alexa-chung-style60s meets 70s meets now

When it comes to modern day style inspirations, I always find myself referencing Alexa Chung, and I think her style is especially interesting to those of us who like to incorporate vintage into our closets. Alexa’s style is an eclectic mix of 60s mod, 70s cool-girl, and current trends. I often turn to her recently photographed looks for outfit inspiration, particularly in the fall and winter months.

Key elements of her outfits? Vintage-inspired blouses, a-line skirts, oversized outerwear, and quirky pieces that don’t take themselves too seriously. Today I’ve collected a mixture of casual and dressy vintage items from kick-flare jeans, to stripey sweaters, to the perfect 1960s mod dress. 5 Tips for Thrift Shopping for Your Wardrobe

5-tips-for-thrift-shopping-for-clothingThrifty Finds

If you have been a reader of Chic Éthique for a while, you will know that I love thrift shopping for my wardrobe. It’s an economical way to fill out a wardrobe while being conscious of the environment, ethics, and charitable causes all at once. Growing up, my mother shopped for me at thrift shops and garage sales, and as a teenager, I didn’t like wearing thrifted things or visiting thrift stores. As I learned more about the fashion industry, however, I fell in love with it, and was so grateful to my mom for showing me how it was done, even if I didn’t appreciate it at the time. I often get asked if I have any advice for thrifting, so today I’m sharing five thrifting tips. Find them below in both written and video forms, and let’s get thrifting!

Vintage Picks No. 2 // Audrey Hepburn Classics

audrey hepburn classic outfits

I’ve written many times about my love for Audrey Hepburn’s chic style, and who better to take inspiration from when shopping for vintage than the ladies of a given era? Today’s collection of vintage finds takes inspiration from Audrey. From vintage Givenchy pieces, to classic wardrobe staples, these items will give any wardrobe a touch of Hepburn flair.

LBDs, Trenches, & Givenchy

Pieces that come to mind when I think of Audrey Hepburn include little black dresses, statement earrings, striped tops, trench coats, and slim-fitting trousers. Throw a vintage Givenchy piece into the mix, and your Audrey-esque wardrobe is well on its way. Here I’ve collected an eclectic mixture of pieces inspired by her stunning on-screen looks as well as her more laid-back off-camera ensembles. Vintage Picks // No. 1: Summer Blues & Whites

vintage-clothing-for-summer-2017Welcome to a brand new series: Vintage Picks! I’ve long loved browsing Etsy for vintage clothing and accessories, but I know from experience it can be time-consuming and overwhelming. With this in mind, each week I will be curating some of my favorite vintage pieces around a unifying theme or idea with the purpose of making vintage shopping a little easier, and also to give myself the fun of hunting down items and putting them together! Without further ado, here’s the first installment of Vintage Picks!

Blue & White

When summer rolls around, I find myself drawn to blue pieces, be they denim or something else, and soft white cotton numbers, often with sweet embroidered details. Thankfully when it comes to both of these style ideas, the vintage world has me covered from the 1910s to the 1990s. A little white dress topped with a denim jacket and a straw hat sounds like the perfect summer ensemble in my book. These are the pieces I have my eye on when it comes to blue, white, and straw. I can’t get over the cold-shoulder dress or perfect market hat!

*The shop selling the basket bag just went on vacation, but I’ll link to it when it returns!
