On the Water
I’m finally back with another installment in my travel diary series, and this time we’re back in Italy! After leaving Venice, we drove over to a beautiful spot in northern Italy on the south side of the Alps: Lago (lake) Maggiore. Lago Maggiore was a lovely quiet contrast to the hustle and bustle of Venice, and it was wonderful to experience the more laid-back side of Italy. We were lucky enough to have a hotel right on the lake, and the outdoor dining area had the most serene view.
While in Europe, I got to visit Italy for the first time, and it was pretty dreamy. We drove in from Austria, and started our visit in Venice, or Venezia if you’re Italian. It completely blew away my expectations, and I even loved the quintessential tourist activities. From gondolas to gelato, Italy is magical, and these were some of my favorite moments.
Pink Churches & Apple Strudel
After waving a bittersweet farewell to Germany, we arrived for a brief stay in the beautiful city of Innsbruck, Austria. My only experience of Austria had been a day trip to Saltzburg, so I was excited to see a new part of such a stunning country. Innsbruck was a convenient stop on our way to Italy, and while we didn’t spend much time in it, we had a grand time exploring. Highlights for me? Pink churches and apple strudel!
The first part of my adventure found me in one of my favorite countries, Germany. Don’t tell, but I’m already trying to contrive a way to go back on a hiking trip! Our plane flew into Stuttgart, and we spent the first evening wandering around the beautiful old city. I had been to Stuttgart once before, but I didn’t remember it very well, so it was fun to walk around and get a feel for it again. I love the intricate old palaces, and blue-green copper accents sprinkled in among red roofs. The next day we headed off to Neuschwanstein Castle of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fame– also one of my favorite places for a bit of hiking!
Since my brother moved to the Chicago area several years ago, it’s become one of my favorite places to travel to. The flight from Little Rock is so quick, making it an easy trip, and one I really enjoy. Now that I’ve traveled to the area several times, I thought it would be fun to put together a little travel guide of some of my favorite museums, coffee shops, and other fun things–
plus it’s an excuse to share way too many photos from my most recent trip!
