DIY: Yogurt and honey facial. What it does and why it does it.

A few months ago I got rid of all the chemical laden facial products I had been using and started an all natural regimen. I just got so tired of nothing working, and wasn’t feeling too good about all the junk I was putting on me and into the environment. So I thought I would start sharing some of my favorite recipes for facials, scrubs, and that kind of thing. Most of them are easy to do just using normal ingredients from you kitchen!

So for the first recipe, I’m showing you my absolute all time favorite mask. It’s super easy and only uses two ingredients: plain yogurt and honey.

Let’s take a quick look at the properties of these two items.
Honey: It’s naturally antibacterial. That means it is going to get rid of germs on your skin that could be causing some of those breakouts that are driving you crazy.

Yogurt: Yogurt is full of enzymes making it a natural exfoliater. It is also antibacterial, and the lactic acid in it soothes irritation, clears pores, and softens the skin.  Finally, the live cultures in yogurt are known to be helpful for skin conditions such as acne. It really needs to be plain yogurt. Flavored has a bunch of junk in it you wont want on your skin.

These two ingredients together target problem skin, but will certainly be helpful to most skin types.

What you do:

I’m just using a normal tea spoon to measure with. Measurements aren’t crucial. Start with two tea spoons of the yogurt.

Add a tea spoon of honey.
 Mix it up…
 until it’s smooth.

And that’s it! Spread a thin layer onto clean, dry skin, and let it dry for about fifteen minutes. If it’s not dry in that time, don’t worry. It has still done it’s work. Rinse it off just like you normally would for a facial mask. You can store the leftovers in the fridge for about a week.

If you are like me, when you rinse it off you will notice your skin feels softer, cleaner, and may even have a bit of a healthy glow to it! 🙂
