My Top 3 MAC Lipsticks

three first mac lipsticksWhen I first started getting into makeup, I remember the buzz around MAC lipsticks. I like the color selection they offer as well as the variety of formulas. Today I’m showing you three of my favorites, all in different formulas. They are all quite different, and would make a great MAC lipstick starter kit!

Patisserie came as a recommendation from Anna of Vivianna Does Makeup. I pretty much think her taste in makeup is flawless, so I went out and bought this after hearing her talk it up. Now mine is only a tiny nib, and I think this is the closest I’ve ever come to finishing a lipstick! Patisserie is a great shade for when you don’t feel like having to worry about your lip color. It immediately makes me feel more put together, but is about as low maintenance as a lipstick gets. It’s a pretty pinky-nude shade, and a luster formulation, meaning it has a sheer glossy finish. I wear it all the time!

Creme in Your Coffee is a shade I stumbled on while browsing the Nordstrom website last year. It’s a a brown-rose nod to that 90s lip trend that’s been here for a while, but a more subtle take on it. This shade gives an edge to my makeup that makes me feel a little more dressed up and on trend. Creme in Your Coffee is a Cremesheen formula, meaning it is opaque, but has a bit of moisture. When I’m feeling something a bit more bold than a nude, this is what I reach for.

Russian Red is the first MAC shade I bought, and it’s remained a favorite for years. It is a blue based matte red, and I think it suits pale skin beautifully. The MAC matte formula isn’t too drying, and I find this shade easy to apply. I don’t tend to go for reds or bright shades too often these days, but when I do, it’s Russian Red.

Do you like MAC lipsticks? If so, what are your favorite shades? I’d love to hear!

  1. Hello Lauren,
Was just going through a stack of old magazines, one of them the autumn 2015 issue of Mingle. I just loved your article and your photos and have been meaning to look at your blog. You have a real gift for lighting in your photography. Those photos made me feel so nostalgic and like I wanted to climb right into their warm glow and have tea with White Christmas on the TV! I’m just surprised you’re not older, but please don’t take that the wrong way. Nice work!

    1. Hi Colleen!
Thank you so much for coming to my blog! I loved putting together that article for Mingle, and your kind words mean so much to me! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the article, and it’s so exciting for me to hear a response from someone. And I’m actually quite honored that you are surprised by my age– I’ve always felt like my interests and personality made me older than I am in a lot of ways. Thank you again for reading and reaching out to me, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
