Sewing Project: My About Time Dress

Mary About Time DressAbout Time DressHey everyone! I’m sorry I’ve been missing around the blog this week! I’ve been planning to post everyday, but things keep getting in the way! In any case, today I have a sewing project to share! Mary About Time Grey Dress Mary About Time Lace DressDress with lace sleevesVintage Inspired Midi Dress

Dress: Made by me.

Shoes: DSW.

Lipstick: Clinique’s Melon Pop.

Last year around this time, I saw the movie About Time for the first time, and it quickly became one of my favorite films. One thing that I love about it is Mary’s (Rachel McAdams’) wardrobe throughout the movie. It’s vintage inspired, and oh so cute. Her grey dress with lace sleeves was one of my favorites, so I decided to sew my own version of it!

I chose a charcoal grey linen for the main part of the dress, and a cream stretch lace for the sleeves. Vogue’s V9100 had the right shape for the dress, and even included the all important pockets. I cut the sleeves in a standard pattern, and they worked perfectly. Sewing for this project was quick and easy, and I love the finished result!

Here I’ve paired it with my blush vintage inspired heels from Crown Vintage. I actually bought a pair of black t-strap heels inspired by the shoes Mary wears with this dress, but decided it was a little early in the year to wear them in these photos. 🙂

I hope you guys enjoyed seeing my latest sewing project! Have you made anything lately? I’d love to hear about it!

  1. That movie was so cute, and I agree I kept coming back to thinking about it because of her wardrobe! I loved her red wedding dress too! I think I even posted about it after we saw it haha. 🙂 This is adorable!! It looks so great on you. It looks so versatile too like you could dress it up or down! Now I want to watch the movie again… 🙂 XO -Alexandra

I have a dress that has a similar silhouette to your dress and it’s my favorite.
