Spring 10×10 Style Challenge: Look No. 10

how to wear a dress as a topFriends! It’s time for the very last look in my spring 10×10 style challenge! This has been such a fun creative exercise for me, but I’m so excited to have my full closet to pick from again tomorrow. I love how this challenge has pushed me to try new ways to wear the items in my closet, and today’s look is one of my favorite new combinations. It’s made of up of two pieces I would never have thought to put together outside of the 10×10 restrictions, and I love how it looks. The combination of a fitted top and full skirt is a nod to some of my favorite vintage looks,

And you just can’t beat a twirly skirt in the spring!

  1. A black wrap dress, worn as a top (Margu)
  2. A floral skirt (Made by me, fabric here, pattern here)

I saw this dress next to my floral skirt recently, and was struck by how they looked together. Today I tried layering the skirt over the dress, and I love the way it gives the illusion of a wrap around top. The wrap styling emphasizes the waistline, and the silhouette overall takes inspiration from the 1950s reminding me of Vera Ellen in White Christmas. floral midi skirt outfit ideasmadewell indio sunglassesvintage coach etsy

  1. Flat scalloped sandals (Club Monaco)
  2. A simple gold necklace (Madewell)
  3. A vintage crossbody (Vintage Coach, find more vintage Coach bags here)
  4. Retro inspired sunglasses (Madewell)

I wanted to pair casual accessories with this look, so I went for my flat sandals and a crossbody bag. Since my “top” has a v-neckline, I opted to wear my favorite little gold necklace, and finished off the look with some retro inspired sunglasses.

This was a full and fun Friday! I picked up my car from the shop, did some shopping, and celebrated my dad and cousin’s birthday this evening. There was a lot of chatting, laughing, and cake which is hard to beat. I’m finishing off my day sipping some tea and watching Sabrina while I type up this blog post. This outfit made me feel so happy today, and was perfect for my activities.

  1. I have loved seeing how you styled all the pieces in your 10×10 style challenge…..definitely gave me some ideas:) Also, I love that yo styled this look with a skirt over a dress, because we often forget how easy it is to wear those two pieces together.
