Summer Reads

summer-readsDuring the summertime I’m always inspired to read more. Maybe it’s the memories of summer reading challenges at my local library as a kid or memories of long happy days reading in the back yard, in any case, come summer I’m all about the books.

Today I thought I would share some books that I’m reading this summer. Some are old favorites that I’ve read before, and some are brand new to me.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

I’ve meant to read this book since high school. It’s such a classic, and I’m excited to finally read it. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is one of my all time favorites, and I’m interested to compare her sister’s writing to hers. This little edition of the book is special because my best friend brought it to me after studying in England for a semester!

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little Women is a book that I have such great memories of. I love the stories of the four sisters. Being one of five sisters, (plus two brothers!) I find I can relate to the characters a lot. I’ve read it a couple of times, but I’m ready to read it again. Honestly, this Rifle Paper Co. edition of the book might have something to do with that. 😉

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

I’ve read Sense and Sensibility once before, but it’s been a long time. Jane Austin’s novels are the kind that I have a hard time putting down, and this is one of my favorites.

Z by Therese Anne Fowler

If you’ve followed me for a long time, you probably remember me mentioning something about the 1920s and F. Scott Fitzgerald at some point. This novel is about the life of his wife Zelda, and I’m interested to see how the author describes her and her relationship with her famous husband.

Death Comes to Pemberly by P. D. James

I first noticed this book after seeing the mini series of the same name on Netflix. It’s a mystery story set after the close of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I’ve read a couple of sequels to the original novel, and always enjoy seeing how authors follow up the story.

If you love reading, be sure to add me on Goodreads to keep up with what I’m working on!

Do you like to read in the summer? Do you have any good book recommendations? I’d love to hear!

  1. What excellent literary taste you have Lauren! Some of those are among my favorite books as well!
I am currently reading The Prestige by Christopher Priest which was the inspiration for the film The Prestige starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. It boasts a wonderfully intriguing plot and there is still a bit of mystery for those of us who have already seen the film. You should give it a look 🙂

    1. Again, Dicken’s description of Marly’s ghost is the only thing that can appropriately convey my surprise at seeing a comment from you my friend! Did you catch your honorable mention in this post? I applaud you for embracing the modern age and utilizing the great tool that is the internet! Hmmm I’ll have to look into that book that I introduced you to. 😉
Wishing you the best of luck on you text today!

  2. Great list! I’ve heard a lot about Death Comes To Pemberly, but I’ve never read a Pride and Prejudice sequel. I guess I am scared it will ruin the book for me. I’d love to hear what you think!
